Welcome to the Turkish page on ECSA website.

The Republic of Turkey is the member of the ECSA from the year 2006.

Throughout its history, Turkish Customs Administration has worked within different structures. While passing from the Ottoman Empire era to the Republican era, the Customs organization continued to maintain its importance.

In 1931 General Commandership of Customs Enforcement was founded as a semi-military organization upon the increase in smuggling cases. In 1931 the Ministry of Customs and Monopoly was established and General Commandership of Customs Enforcement was included in this Ministry. Turkish Customs Administration was restructured together with the Ministry of Finance in 1983 as the Ministry of Finance and Customs. In 1993, the Customs organization was reorganized as an Undersecretariat affiliated to the Prime Ministry with a separate budget and administrative structure. Finally, in 2011, the Ministry of Customs and Trade was established.

One of the most significant developments for the Turkish Customs in the Republican era is “the Customs Union” between Turkey and the European Community in 1995. As a consequence of the Customs Union, the Turkish Customs Legislation was revised and modernized accordingly, the Customs Tariff System was harmonized to the EU Combined Nomenclature and the Single Administrative Document (SAD) was introduced throughout Turkey.

The Turkish Customs currently carries out modernization projects in order to modernize the Customs posts, to facilitate the legal trade, to prevent illegal trade and to simplify the transactions.
